Multinationals from the Third World: Indian Firms Investing Abroad
This book examines India's rapidly-increasing overseas investments in recent years. Lall begins with a general statistical analysis based on interviews with Indian firms having manufacturing operations abroad. He then constructs econometric models of firm behavior and uses firm-level data to distinguish between Indian firms that invest abroad and those that do not, finally extending his analysis to an industry level. The book concludes with policy recommendations for improving the performance of existing overseas ventures and increasing the export competitiveness of Indian manufactures.
