Thoughts on Management Development
This book is written by a highly experienced, widely published management development practitioner who has worked with all levels of management in several industries and has addressed management conferences in Britain, USA and Continental Europe. He has held a number of senior management positions, including that of executive director of a management centre. The work opens by drawing a distinction between management development, and manager education or training, and examining some of the theories and techniques that have been fashionable in the recent past. It argues that management development must be an integral element of corporate strategy with the development specialist having an input to strategic thinking from the onset. Later chapters offer a range of concepts and tools that affect business performance and the effectiveness of the management development function. The book offers a strategic vision for all management and organisation development professionals, as well as practical advice on implementation.
